WHAT THE COMPETITION WILL CONSIST OF:
The competition will be based on spraying only and not actual repairs like sanding, filling, and priming. Each contestant will be given a piece of sheet-metal that is 2x3 foot that has been pre-painted and clearcoated with a tough metallic color like a beige or silver (color has yet to be determined). Each panel will be laid down to where the 2 foot sides will be vertical and the 3 foot sides will be horizontal and the bottom left hand corner will have been pre-primered. The first part of the competition is for each contestant to basecoat and blend out over the repair until full coverage has been achieved. The challenge is that a new batch of basecoat that the contestants will be spraying for the competition will have two toners that are either missing or fall short of what the original formula called for. The toners that are called for in the formula will be present for the contestants to figure out and add to there paint to correct and tint when they spray there panels. Their will be sprayout cards available for all contestants to test color match before actually spraying there panel. Once contestants are done basecoating the panel they will follow up with clearcoating the complete panel.
The second and third part of the competition will consist of another piece of sheet-metal that is 1x2 foot that has been pre-painted black and clearcoated and will be laid where the 1 foot sides will be vertical and the 2 foot sides will be horizontal. The object of this challenge is to clearcoat half the panel and then burn it in to an invisible blend. This part of the challenge will be judge on how well the clearcoat was blended and then how well does the orange peel of the clearcoated sprayed matches the existing orange peel of the panel.
