Paint Contest Rules/Regulations
WHAT THE COMPETITION WILL CONSIST OF.
The competition will be based on spraying only and not actual repairs like sanding, filling, and priming. Each contestant will be given a piece of sheet-metal that is 2x3 foot that has been pre-painted and clearcoated with a tough metallic color like a beige or silver (color has yet to be determined). Each panel will be laid down to where the 2 foot sides will be vertical and the 3 foot sides will be horizontal and the bottom left hand corner will have been pre-primered. The first part of the competition is for each contestant to basecoat and blend out over the repair until full coverage has been achieved. The challenge is that a new batch of basecoat that the contestants will be spraying for the competition will have two toners that are either missing or fall short of what the original formula called for. The toners that are called for in the formula will be present for the contestants to figure out and add to there paint to correct and tint when they spray there panels. Their will be sprayout cards available for all contestants to test color match before actually spraying there panel.  Once contestants are done basecoating the panel they will follow up with clearcoating the complete panel.

The second and third part of the competition will consist of another piece of sheet-metal that is 1x2 foot that has been pre-painted black and clearcoated and will be laid where the 1 foot sides will be vertical and the 2 foot sides will be horizontal. The object of this challenge is to clearcoat half the panel and then burn it in to an invisible blend. This part of the challenge will be judge on how well the clearcoat was blended and then how well does the orange peel of the clearcoated sprayed matches the existing orange peel of the panel.

RULES OF THE COMPETITION FOR ALL CONTESTANTS
1: Must use only the paints and materials that will be provided for the event.
2: When spraying the 2x3 foot panel the basecoat blend must stay within 8 inches from the whole top of the panel and 10 inches from the far right side of the panel.
3: When spraying the 1x2 panel the clearcoat edge must not exceed past half way down the panel before burning in the clear.
4: If sprayed beyond the limits of rules #2 and #3 contestant will score a zero.
5: Each contestant will be limited to 4 ounces of sprayable basecoat.
6: There will be no sanding, buffing or polishing allowed on the panels.
7: Contestants are required to clean their own panels prior to painting.

JUDGING FOR THE COMPETITION
The judging for the competition will be judged by 3 highly experienced painters. The judging will be judged on and scored by the following.
How well the basecoat was tinted and blended on the 2x3 foot panel. (20 possible points).
How well the clearcoat on the 1x2 panel was burned in to an invisible blend (10 possible point).
How well the sprayed clearcoat orange peel matches the existing orange peel on the 1x2 foot panel (10 possible points).
In the event there is a tie each contestants time will be recorded from the time they started to the time they finished and whoever had the fastest time will win the tie breaker. Dirt and debris that may land into the paint jobs will not effect the scoring process. Awards will be rewarded to 1st 2nd and 3rd place winners.

All contestants will be allowed to bring their own spray gun for the competition, and there will be Iwata LPH-80 spray guns available for they that choose so to use. All contestants will also be responsible for bringing there own air respirators for the competition. Since the competition will be limited on entries we suggest you reserve your spot early. The entry fee for the competition will be $60 and will help cover the cost of the event and prize money. The entry fee must be paid at the time of reserving your position for the competition and will not be refundable if a cancellation isn’t made within 14 days of the expo dates. A list of all products (clearcoat, blenders, etc.) will be provided to all contestants within 30 days of the competition for contestants to purchase and practice with if they choose so. Prizes and sponsors for the competition will be announced at the time of the event.
